MLB Rule: Tagging a 1B Bag - Orange vs. White

Question
Runner on 1b , 2 outs, pop up directly over the 1b bag runner on 1b tries to get cute and leads off 1b catches ball and gets foot back to the bag before runner gets back on 1b, but the 1b clearly tags the orange bag instead of white, I call him safe because I believed that the orange only is considered used for throws to the 1b bag to protect the runner and 1b is that correct call ?

Answer
Hi Kurt,

If this is ASA play, that would be incorrect.  After the base is occupied it becomes 1 big base for the purpose of any play either by the offense or defense.

Mark

ps in some other orgs. I understand the orange base disappears, so it will depend on what org your playing.
