12U Travel Ball Tryout Coaching: Key Focus Areas & Tips

I will be coaching girl's 12U travel ball team next year and I am looking for suggestions on what to concentrate on in the tryouts.  I have never done this before and only watched a couple tryouts that my daughters were in.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Concentrate on the basics.

How will do they....

Field
Throw

Watch their interaction with the parents.   Now is the time to nip attitude problems.  If you have an overactive parent that could become overbearing with time, it is ok to cut a player to get rid of a parent.

You need at least two good pitchers more likely three.  A good catcher and a player that can fill in well behind the  plate.  Otherwise look for good athletes with good attitudes.  Nothing will kill a team quicker than a kid or a parent with a bad attitude.

Good luck and have fun, the dirty looks usually don't start until 14U.
