Bunt Rule in Baseball: Ball Hits Bat - Play Analysis
Question
What is the call in these 2 scenarios (scenario A happened last evening in the finals of a playoff game in Delaware Cty Pa). The batters bunts a ball (it is in fair territory), he throws that bat on the ground and 1) the bat rolls into the ball 2) the bat is stationary and the ball rolls into the bat.
Answer
Hi Sal,
1) if the bat out of the batter's hands dropped or thrown hits the ball in fair territory, it is a dead ball, out.
2) if the ball hits the bat on the ground, the batter is not out but the ball is fair or foul based on the fair/foul rule between hp and 1st or 3rd.
