Number of steps in batters box

Question
I've been watching a local Bar Slow Pitch League which is supposed to be running under ASA rules. I've noticed some things which I find quite interesting.

There does not seem to be a batters box, and I've been watching some batters take 2-3 steps forward to put more power into the hit. How big is the batters box supposed to be?

Pitching seems to be at the best haphazard, I've seen pitchers that seem to be "flicking" the ball in very quickly..IS there not a requirement that the ball must be presented for 1 second minimum?

thanks

Answer
Hi Dave,

The BB extends 4' in front of a line drawn through the middle of the plate. 2or 3 steps probably would keep them in the box depending on where they start and how big the steps.

In ASA if that's what you're playing The pitcher must come to a full and complete stop w/ the ball in front of the body, facing the batter for at least 1 sec.  Other orgs have much different rules.
