Double Base Ruling: Batter-Runner Advancing to First
Question
if a batter hits a ball in the gap and is going for extra bases, rounding first only hits the orange base could he or she be ruled out if appealled
Answer
Hi lou,
No, the spirit and the intent of the rule is safety, it is not a "gotcha" rule.
Even so the rule is spelled out ASA 8-2-M-6. On balls hit to the outfield with no play on the batter-runner advancing to first base, the batter-runner may touch the white or colored portion.
