Dead ball ruling in an ASA type league

Question
Hello I am in a coed league in CT and we adhere to asa rules. My team (visitor) was winning by one run in the bottom of the seventh inning. The other team had bases loaded with no outs. Their batter pops up in foul territory on third base side and we made a catch in foul territory. The umpire rules it a catch.(with no dead ball announcement)My third base ended up in dead ball territory after he threw the ball home.  The runner on third base tags up and runs to home after the catch. My third base man throws it home and the runner is tagged out. A debate ensues. The umpire now confers with an off duty umpire. The on duty umpire now says that the ball was caught in play and momentum brought him out of play. He changes the call. His remedy was to put the bases loaded with one out. We then got the next two people out. The game was over so we thought.  Now our league says that the other team should have been awarded a base and that would of tied the game. Wondered if you can help us.. Our playoff game in Monday....thanks

Answer
Hi David,

well you tell me 2 things that can change what happens

"My third base ended up in dead ball territory after he threw the ball home."

"The on duty umpire now says that the ball was caught in play and momentum brought him out of play."

If the ball was caught and thrown before F5 entered dead ball territory it is nothing and play continues.

If F5 was in dead ball territory before they released the ball it is a dead ball and all runners are awarded 1 base.

"His remedy was to put the bases loaded with one out."  this would not be correct in either case.

"Now our league says that the other team should have been awarded a base and that would of tied the game."  that is correct if F5 entered dead ball territory w/ possession of the ball.
