ASA Slow Pitch Rules: Illegal Quick Pitches Explained
Question
Sir, we have a pitcher in our league that continuously quick pitches the ball. What in the rule book, if anything, states no quick pitch. Is there any reference to a quick pitch and does it state something to the fact that the pitcher has to 'stop, show the ball, pause, and then pitch"?
Answer
Hi Jonathan,
6-1-7 ASA " the pitcher shall not attempt a quick return of the ball before the batter has taken a position in the batter's box or when the batter is off balance." it is an illegal pitch
really the PU should have a handle on this and prevent it. If there's a problem with it, put your arm up and ask for time every pitch as you reset.
the pitcher must come to a full and complete stop w/ the ball in front of the body, facing the batter and maintain this for at least 1 sec.
