runner obstruction

Question
QUESTION: Runner at first. Ball hit to right field. Runner rounds second   watching right fielder (approx. 20 ft from ball still). Runner rounds second heading for third. Shortstop (having no play) steps up, collides with runner. Both fall to ground. Runner has no choice but to retreat back to second. Should this be a dead ball with runner/runners advancing? The ump said because the runner did not (after being tripped up) still try to advance to third, he does not get it awarded. Pt 2  Runner asks to be awarded second. Ump tells runner "if you don't like call, read the rule book." Runner tells ump "wonderful." Ump calls on deck batter out for profanity. Why not call runner out for "profanity"? Not that wonderful is profane. Pt 3  Runner asks what is profane about the word wonderful? Ump says "sorry I made a mistake." but still ends inning even though no further pitches have been made. Should the batting team  still be permitted to continue batting if the ump admitted to making a mistake?

ANSWER: Hi Brian,

We have obstruction, delayed dead ball, and after play has ceased, we award the runner(s) the base(s) they would have reached in our judgment had there been no obstruction.  They need not "try" to advance to that base.

What did the ODB do????? no rule that I know of to call him out.  We eject people (the person who said it) for profanity but can't call them out.

I would make it right.

QUESTION: ODB did nothing. If ump admitted to making a mistake should the inning have been allowed to continue?

Answer
Hi Brian,

thank you for the kind eval

sure, I gave you the answers to this problem but maybe need to add more

1)what did the odb do...nothing...no rule to call them out, protest as misapplication of the playing rules

2) we eject players for unsportsman-like conduct, not call them out.  If R1 stops just in front of the plate on a base hit, coming in from 3rd and tells me XXXXXxxx?????##### and so does your dog and your children, and then steps on the plate,  I can eject him (don't talk about my dog like that) but I have no rule to call him out and the run counts.

3) i would make it right, means the inning continues. but if it doesn't again the protest is your last resort weapon and at least when it is upheld you start again from that exact position.
