rainout rule

Question
Question for you is we were playing the first game of a doubleheader in NYC Big Apple Softball League. The first game was called do to rain after 3.5 innings of play were complete. My understanding is that this is not an official game and all events that happened would be nullified and the game would restart from inning one, canceling all play and runs that were scored. Is this correct. Some people are stating that we will resume in the bottom of the 4th inning. I have played college baseball, umped college and high school baseball and coached high school softball and nothing has ever been continued from where we left off due to rain. It was always a NO GAME as per in NCAA rules and start over from scratch. Can you help me find the softball rule on this?

Thanks,
Nick

Answer
Hi Nick,

In ASA play when we have a non-regulation game which means that 4.5 or 5 innings (depends on who's ahead) have not been played we resume the game at the exact spot (down to the ball/strikes, runners etc)it was stopped 5-3-d.  In ASA play we never have a no game and start over.
