first year softball player very confused about where to throw the ball

Question
its my first year playing and the position i feel most comfortable in is center field or 2nd base (mostly center). i get confused on which base to throw the ball at when the ball comes to me. please help !
& also any tips on how to strengthen my throw would be great !

Answer
Kelly,

I will try this for center field.  The only real teacher will be experience.  Here are some basics.

Nobody on when the ball is hit, throw to 2nd base.

Runner on first when the ball is hit to you your first look should be third.  It the runner that was on first has made it to third, run the ball into the infield, be ready to throw home if the runner on third takes off.  Also be ready to throw the ball to second.

This all depends on how deep the ball is hit.  If the runners are moving get the ball in, you should have an infielder coming out for the cut off.  If the runners have stopped, run (sprint) the ball in, unless you are very deep then get the ball to the cut-off person.

If you start with a runner on second, and the ball is hit you, you should be looking to throw the ball home.

Centerfielder is one of the more important defensive position.  It takes a lot of time to learn to play correctly.
