Softball Rules: Are There Limits on Hitting Batters?
Question
Hi Tom,
I have consulted my rules book with success on this matter.
Is there a limit on how many batters a pitcher can hit?
Thank you in advance for your help
Brian
Answer
Brian,
The nature of your question and the subject line leads me to believe you are awfully close to home.
In any ruleset there are no rules that limit the number of batters that can be hit by a pitch. The only thing an umpire can do is remove the pitcher from the game if they believe the pitcher is intentionally throwing at the batter. This would be unsportsmanlike conduct.
Is your question based on playing in the Chain-O-Lakes league in Northern Michigan? Let me know.
Thanks
Tom
