Injured player re: lineup change

Question
I recently took a hard gounder off my right middle finger, completed the play to get us out of the inning but had a broken finger. I was due up 3rd in our following turn at bat but could not bat due to the injury. I was removed from the lineup completely. What is the ASA ruling regarding replacing/substituting a player due to injury? Our commissioner stated that we need to take an out for my spot in the batting order, at least for that at bat.

Thanks!

Answer
Hi Brad,

If you had a legal substitute available, he would simply sub in for you and bat and then play defense.

If you felt you could still play defense you could re-enter and play defense.  When your time came to bat, the sub could re-enter and bat but you are now out of the game.

If no sub is available, the team can play shorthanded and take an out in you batting position.  You could not play defense only if your team is playing shorthanded.  You are out of the game, you cannot re-enter.

If no sub is available and you felt you could still play defense and didn't want to play shorthanded you could always just stand in the batter's box and take pitches until you're out or walk.
