Fastpitch Softball: Correct Scoring for Batter Out of Box

How do you scored it when a batter runs up in the batter box to hit the ball but she is out of the batter box when she hits the ball and is called out. I scored it batter interference but I don't believe that is correct. Thank you, Ralph

Hello Ralph,

I would also score it this way.  The Catcher would be credited with the put out and it would become a dead ball.  I looked at the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA.ORG) and couldn't fine this exact scenario in their scoring handbook, but I can't find any other possibility.  I'll check with the lady that keeps our books and if she has a different answer, I'll post a follow up.
