Volleyball Reach & Blocking Heights for 14-Year-Old Players
Question
QUESTION: Hi
I am a 6'1 power hitter in grade 9. What is a good standing reach, block touch, and spike touch for my age (14)? My numbers are
standing reach: 7'10
block touch: 10'3
spike touch: 10'7
Thanks
ANSWER: Good afternoon!
I'm just about ready to go to practice, so I can't answer all your questions now.
However, I have one question for you: I assume that you're male? Some females can tough 10'7", but not many. If you're a female, your #'s are Olympic team-ish. If you're a guy, then they are wonderful!

QUESTION: Yes I'm a male. However what would be the numbers for a male olympic team-ish 15 year old? Also, I know you specialize in volleyball, but would you say I am close to dunking? If i'm not, how far do i have to go?
Thanks very much!!
Answer
Good morning again and welcome back!
I was read an interview with USA Volleyball player Matt Anderson. Here is what he said.
"When standing I can reach around 8?0″, when spike approaching I can reach 12?″. If my math is correct that is around a 40″ vertical." Yes, these men are freaks.
The interview is here: http://www.volleywood.net/usav-volleyball-news/matt-anderson-answers/
If you scroll down, you will see a highlight video of him playing.
I hope that this helps some.
