Simultaneous Contact in Volleyball: Legal Play & USAV Rules
Question
I had a team receiving a serve, when the ball crossed over the net a man and woman hit the ball at the same time. Is this considered a double hit? Did I make the wrong call on this I was challenged with that call.
Answer
Good afternoon and welcome to www.allexperts.com.
If you called a double hit, then you made a mistake.
If teammates simultaneously make a contact, then:
a) that counts as one contact, and;
b) either person can make the next hit.
This is the ruling in USAV, National Federation, FIVB, etc. I've been coaching & reffing since 1985, and I've never known the ruling to be any different.
