Coach and assistant disagree on how to teach serving footwork

Question
How do I approach a head coach (as Assistant) who is teaching a two step (right left hit) approach to girls when the proper I have been taught and teach is toss, step hit?

Answer
Good morning and welcome to www.allexperts.com!

a) I would ask the head coach if your toss-step-hit is acceptable?

b) Always always have your coach believe that you respect them.   Always give the coach the impression that you know/accept that the coach is in charge.

c)  Don't EVER say junk like, "It's the way to do it, and I can't teach it any other way!"  No,  you don't give those in charge ultimatums.  This then puts your coach in the position to either having to (1) give in or (2) forcing you to do it his way......and your coach would rather do neither.  Your coach would rather you try to teach what he's teaching w/o having to make a scene.

d) Where did you learn your serve footwork?  Was it from SuperCoach Jones at RST High School, or AwesomeCoach Smith at ABC University?  Then maybe tell your coach that.  Maybe your coach will then say, "Whoa.  You learned that from WHO?  OK, I'll let you teach the kids your way also."

I hope that this helps!  Thank you again for contacting me, and have a great day!
