Blocking fundamentals error & how to fix it

Question
Do you have any drills to Middle blocker gets over the net when she blocks but she swings her arms alot in the blocking motion When she is penetrating the net she is swinging both arms so it's almost like an attack...instead of just "pressing" over the net.  For the life of me I can't think of something, a drill or an explanation that will help her stop swinging her arms.  Any ideas? drills? suggestions?

Answer
Hello Coach!

Thank you for visiting www.allexpert.com.

It's odd that you mention this, b/c I just saw a senior last night in a drill doing the same thing. I asked my assistant, "Is that something new?"  She said, "No, only to the opponents if they aren't accustomed to tooling their opponents."

a) I use the analogy "the net is ice".  So a player's hands must slide up and back down.

b) Have her watch herself on video.  Then have her watch other girls.

c) Have her sit on the bench during your scrimmages and matches vs. uncompetitive opponents until she sees the need to change.

I don't see that improper blocking fundamentals is an issue with athleticism or a player's personal physiological challenges.  haha  It's concentration and changing habits.

Thank you for visiting.  I hope you have a moment to visit my team and my staff and www.coachhouser.com.  I think you'll love seeing the smiling faces!
