need value of three Fly Rods and two reels

Question
QUESTION: Hi Joe,
I seek your help in identifying the value of three fly rods and two reels.  Here goes:
1. Fenwick HMG Graphite AFTMA Line No. 4
  GEF 704 7' (213 cm)
  2 1/4 oz (64 gm)
No reel on this fly rod.
2. Fly rod, graphite 8' no information on it.
Has a Medalist Reel, Pflueger, diamolite line guard #1494 patented.
3.  True Temper Fly rod 1005A, 8', Custom Built One Thousand.
Has a Reel and Line with this information on it: Heddon 300, Cortland 333 DT6F Double.
Appreciate all information and price value you can give me, Joe, on the above rods, reels, and line. Also where do you suggest I could sell the above items at?  Thank you kindly! Have a nice day!
    Ron

ANSWER: Hi Ron,

Some of this is a little "iffy" but I think it looks like this:

#1 - This is probably an older Fenwick HMG Graphite GFF 704?  It is likely grey in color, possibly brown or maroon, and should have a very soft action.  This rod is probably from the 1970s-1980s time frame.  Depending on actual condition this rod could sell in the $60-$100 range.

#2 - With no identifiers on the rod and no way to determine who made it, it is likely valued in the $5-$20 range depending on actual condition.

The Pflueger Medalist #1494 would be valued in the $15-$45 range depending on actual condition.

#3 - The True Temper (American Fork & Hoe/Black & Decker) 1005A is also likely from the 1970s-1980s and would be valued in the $15-$40 range depending on actual condition.

The Heddon 300 reel would be valued in the $10-$30 range depending on actual condition.

As far as selling the gear, ebay or another online auction, flea markets, swap meets, try posting a message on one of the fly fishing discussion forums.

The HMG GFF 704 is probably the most desireable item if you can find a small stream fly fishing fanatic.

Thanks,  Joe

QUESTION: Hi Joe, thank you very much. Forgot to mention in the Fenwick Fly Rod above, it was custom made for an individual, (has the person's name on it, very wealthy person), and we believe around 1960 to 1970. Would this change the value from what you stated above?
Many thanks again,
Ron

Answer
Hi Ron,

If there is the name of the rod maker on the rod, it might be possible to see if he/she was particularly famous.  If so, it might help the value somewhat.

If there is no maker name, only the Fenwick name and the name of the first owner, then the name was probably added by Fenwick at the owner's request.  Interesting bit of history, but no real impact on value.

Thanks,  Joe
