Wright-McGill Sweetheart SH300 Fly Rod: History, Quality & Specs

Question
I was givin an Eagle Claw wright and mcgill sweetheart sh 300 2 pc. fly rod in 8'6" and 7 wt. It was in a felt rod sock in an aluminum travel case also labeled Eagle claw sh300 8'6" sweetheart fly rod. the rod is brown (fiberglass)? with cork grip bearing the eagle claw medalion on the grip. the rod is designated as made in denver, co. I would appreciate any info on the rod, ie. when made? quality? action?

Answer
Hi Richard,

Wright-McGill has made these rods for probably 40 years.  It is fiberglass and the brown ones are the older models.  The Sweetheart model is still made today.  Typically, you can buy one for $20-$25 at any sale.  Having the bag and the tube that is also marked to match the rod would add a bit to the value of yours.  You can probably value it in the $30-$35 range depending on condition.

Quality is good and the rod will have a medium to medium fast action. It is basically a fun rod and will handle panfish, trout and bass for you.

Thanks,  Joe
