Salmon fishing

Question
I need some advice on how to salmon fish. All I need to know is what kind of tackle to use, and of yarn works. I Williams be fishing on a few piers, and in the pentwater river. Please give me some advice!

Answer
Hi Bono,

For Lake Michigan Piers, I'd start out with some basic spoons like 2/5th ounce Cleos, 1/2 to 3/4th ounce Krocodiles, Kastmasters, or KO Wobblers.  Silver with green or gold with orange are good starters.  Four inch Gulp Minnows on a 1/4 to 3/8th ounce jig head is also good for all species.  And, a #3-#4 Mepps spinner is also a good choice.

You mention yarn and I guess you are talking yarn flies.  Orange is always good.  Chartreuse is good in murky water.  Peach and even white or cream is good in clear water.

Keep sinkers, snaps and swivels to a minimum.

Eight to ten pound test will work best off the piers.

I hope this is what you are looking for.

Marc
