Abercrombie & Fitch 7 1/2 Smuggler Rod: Freshwater or Saltwater?

Question
QUESTION: I READ YOUR COMENTS ON THE 71/2 SNUGGLER I HAVE ONE BUT I THINK IT'S FOR SALT WATER FISHING THE HANDLE IS ABOUT 16 INCHES LONG WITH A TWO HANDLE GRIP MADE OF WOOD.COULD YOU TELL ME IF IM RIGHT ON THIS .  THANK YOU  BILL

ANSWER: Hi Bill,

The 7 1/2 Smuggler rod, if I remember correctly, was a fly rod.

It sounds to me like yours is a saltwater boat rod.

Can you provide a bit more information about the rod?

How long is it?

Is the shaft fiberglass, steel or bamboo?

Is there a manufacturer name or label on the rod?

These items may help me figure out what you have.

Thanks,

Joe

QUESTION: HiJoe   you asked four additional info on my fishing rod . well here.s all I can give you . the rod is 61/2 ft. long the label reads          abercrombie@fitch  line [2] new york.short hills.chicago  line[3] san francisco part of the label is missing.         there is stamped in black letters next to the label SNUGGLER

Answer
Hi Bill,

Without much more data I'll have to stick with my initial impression that this is an older boat rod for saltwater use.  In typical used condition, this type of rod would be valued in the $30-$60 range depending on what it is made of and who made it.  A&F did not build rods, they sold rods that were built by other companies with the A&F label applied to them.

Thanks,  Joe
