estimate for bamboo fly rod

Question
In 1956 my dad received a Jim Deran Special 8' 4.5 oz by USLAN Inc.The rod was purchased from Orvis Co. in Manchester,VT. The reel seat is below the cork. The base is numbered 8014 and the 2 tips are numbered 706.56. The rod is flat sided and the diameter above the cork is approx. 5/16. The tips are 49.5" long and the base is 49.25"s long. The rod is 2 sections. One tip had a split in the bamboo 4.5inches below the tip. This was professionaly repaired several yrs. ago.Thread wraps are yellow. Some of the eyes show some rust. The rod was used only in the Battenkill River near Manchester, and has not been used in 50 yrs.

My dad passed away 25 yrs. ago and the fly rod has been in my closet ever since.I don't fly fish and my grown kids are not interested, so I want to sell it.

If you sell it for me what is your commission and depending on the estimated value would it sell at a higher price is you reconditioned it.

Answer
Buzz,
Nat Uslan produced two distinct series of five-strip rods; the Deluxe model with a resin
impregnation finish, and the Spencer model with a traditional varnish finish. Both series were produced in two-piece and three-piece versions, ranging in length from seven to nine feet

I would not expect Uslan to have a label or ,logo.
I would expect a model number, length , weight of rod  and date on it .
It should be 5 sided,  and have nickel silver super "Z" ferrules(invented by Nat Uslan).

Uslan is mentioned in Antique %26 Collectable Fishing Rods: Identification %26 V model.alue Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition 2000) add about 30% for age of book.

I am assuming you have a "Spencer" model which is Impregnated, a little heavier. Homel gives the 8' model Uslan Spencer trout fly rod with an extra tip, 2 sections a value of  $90, 235 and 450
for poor, good, excellent condition respectively.

A two section rod is more valuable while a longer rod is less.

Value: I would say maybe 100 but this is is a guesstimate, based on poor condition(rusty guides, repair). I would not sell it without refinishing it. Commission would be 30% , when restored, net about 600.

I quote these books written by researchers so you know I am not making it all up, But I include my experience as well.

It has taken me the best part of an hour to write this up , please take a few seconds to provide feedback. Please remember I am a volunteer , the feedback is the only result I get from doing this.
