horten steel fly rod

Question
Hello Mr. Douglas, I have a steel fly rod (extendable)
from Horten mfg. Bristol conn. What can you tell me about it? It was my grandfathers pole.It is a steel inline fly rod. I would be thankful for any info.
thank you G. Murphy

Answer
Hi Glenn,

Horton made these rods by the thousands judging from the number that are still out there in garages and attics.  They apparently made them for other retail outlets as well applying the name of the other company to the rod.  They are fairly common and probably more useful as a bait rod than as a fly rod due to the weight and limited number of guides.  Typical value would be in the $5-$25 range depending on condition.

Thanks,  Joe
