saltwater rods

Question
I have an old fishing rod which is apparently a saltwater rod.  It is approximately 6 feet long with four rod guides.  It is about 18 inches from rod butt to reel seat.  Printed on the rod it says it is an Ocean Spray 43099 by Montague or Montaque.  It is apparently a casting rod due to the size of the rod guides.  Can you give me any information as to the lure weights or the line weight recommended for this rod?  At present it has a Penn Peerless 09 casting reel mounted on it.  Thank you very much and I look for ward to getting an e-mail from you at your earliest convenience. (I am going fishing with it next month.)

I would think it depends on what your fishing for. I would guess 15 lbs or heavier. It would handle fairly heavy fishing lures.

6 ft sounds more like trolling than pier or surf fishing.

Is the rod fiberglass or bamboo. If split bamboo..I would be careful old bamboo rods get dry and brittle.

If you search for ORCA Fishing Reels, you will find a site dedicated to reels. There will be a button on the right called REEL TALK to select and post questions.
