Fenwick 335 fly rod

Question
Joe,
I have a Fenwick 335 (9' 5 wt) and I was going practice casting with it but it seems rather old. Let me say that I have NEVER fished with a fly rod before. If this rod is worth anything I wouldn't want to take a chance and damage it. Could you give me a little history on it. If I'm not mistaken this may have been manufactured around the same time as the 315 mentioned in a previous email.
Thank you, Jim

Answer
Hi Jim,

I believe the model 335 was produced in the 1955-1962 time frame just before the so-called first generation Feralite rods by Fenwick.  In an unused condition the rod would probably be valued in the $90-$120 range.

I doubt that you can damage it by using it.  Certainly not if it has never been fished before.  It should be a nice rod to use.

I would try 6wt, 7wt and 8wt lines on it and see which one performs best.  The rod may be marked as to line size recommended.

Thanks,  Joe
