Identifying Your Vintage Fly Fishing Rod: A Guide

Question
I have had this pole since I was a kid (now 65). I recently got interested in fly fishing and dug this old pole out. All I can say that is a 2 pc. 7'-6", red, cork handle, with Powr-Kast, T76, HDH 3 3/4 oz. Is it a fly rod or spinning rod? If it is a fly rod what weight is it and is it worth getting some line on it. ANY information on this would be very grateful. Thanks

Answer
Jerome,
A fly rod has the reel below the handle ,while a casting rod is reversed with the reel above the handle.
The only exception is both. That is they made some rods to reverse the handle reel seat and you could switch from fly to cast and vise versa.
I believe what you have is a fiberglass (round not flat sided) fly rod made by Bill Phillipson of Denver Colorado. I am unsure because most of these I've seen were 8 ft 6 inches. Is yours broken ? Are the sections even in length?
HDH is line weight - translated roughly to :
Line Size    AFTMA    Line Weight    Letter Designation
Double Taper     Weight Forward
DT          WF
No. 6    160    HDH    HDG
If you can't read that Double taper in a 6 weight.
I would fish it. Because it is not bamboo , resale vale is low. Bill made great rods. He was a consultant for wing material to the USAF.
