old fishing lures

Question
Hi Robert

I have two old fishing lures that are quite interesting. They were sold by the LEON TACKLE CO.of Detriot Mich..They are called a CHASE-A-BUG mechanical lure. They are about 3" long with a propeller at the nose that makes a lower jaw move up and down when it is pulled through the water. The date on each box is stamped March 13,1956. They also have a patent number of 2,737,748. One lure is solid red and the other is solid yellow. The only information I have been able to find about these lures was on a Japanese web site similar to e-bay.They were for sale for between 21000 and 24000 Yen.

I would like to know if they have any collectable value and if so wnat they would be worth.

Thanks, Bob

Answer
Hello

Your lures are collectable, can you emial a photograph (or scan them). It will help clarify the model of the bugs.

I did some checking with some other collectors. The lures are in the $50 to $100 each range depending on condition of the lure an box. Marblized lures (multiple colors vs. solid) sell for more.

Let me know if your interested in selling.

Japaneese also collect american lures, they go in fads of what is popular, I am not sure if Chase a bugs are popular with them at this time.

I hope this helps.
