Are Bluegill Bream helpful of Harmful to us? Why?

Bluegill, as they are called here in the north, are valuable as a food source for other fish and animals, as well as people. They also provide many hours of fun for younger anglers because they are easy to catch. To me, that means they are helpful to us, and a part of nature's plan that works as intended.
