Age of box swivels

Question
Can you tell me about when fishing lure manufacturers stopped using the old box swivels? For example, if you see a lure with this type swivel, obviously incorporated by the manufacturer, you could assume it was made before what year?

Answer
There is actually controversy on this subject. Traditionally box swivels are considered the earlier form, but there are examples of both box and barrel swivels from before the turn of the century. However, in general box swivels are much more prevalent on early lures.

I personally have box swiveled baits into the 40s but they seem to disappear before that on most lures in the 20s. Where as the barrel swivels become more prevalent from the 20s on.

Also there is an issue of whether the fisherman added a box swivel to the lure he had from older tackle.

I am sorry I cant be more specific. You can generate a lot of responses at this board as well.
