fishing line in aprop

Question
i got afishing line caught in the prop. will it affect motor.must have wound up inside

Answer
Mike: If it is more than just a very small amount of line you should remove it before running the motor again and even a small amount can do damage if not removed.  Line can wind up and cut seals on your prop shaft allowing water to enter your lower unit and do great damage.  This is also true for a trolling motor as well.

If it is just a small amount you can sometimes put the motor in neutral and give a steady pull on the end of the line.  This will sometimes turn your prop in the reverse direction the line is wound and unwind it from your prop shaft..  Please take the old line home and put it in the trash so someone else does not get it in their motor.

This is becoming a bigger and bigger problem all the time because dumb fishermen juslt throw old line in the water.
