how to fish the columbia river?

all i want to know is how to fish the columbia river? i have went a couple of times and only caught little fish, but thats not what i want! i want to catch the big fish , such as salmon and steelhead! so how do you fish this big river and what do catch them on?

Mac, I am sorry but I don't know much about the Columbia River.  My knowlege is on the Great Lakes.  Some of our techniques are the same, like pulling plugs(Hot N Tots, Flatfish, Winning Streaks), drifting salmon eggs, casting spoons and spinners, and even jigs.  But, the Columbia is much larger than anything we have here.  I'd recommend reading magazines like "Salmon Trout Steelheader".  They do a lot of articles on the Trout and Salmon fishing in the Pacific Northwest.  Good luck.
