Pike and Muskie

Question
I plan on goin pike and muskie fishing in mid march.  The water temperature is cold now but will warm up to about 40-45.  What tactics and bait should I use and where would they be?  I plan on fishing in a medium sized sandpit.  Any information will be useful thank you much.

Answer
There are so many more things to know about the conditions but I will do my best with the info you've supplied.

Live bait fishing suckers on a quickstrike rig would be your best bet if it is clear water.

Shad raps and believers would be good for darker water.

Gliders like the H2O Tackle Nitro would be good for clear water.

These fish are predators and relate to the forage in the lake. Use a good sonar and find the forage and don't fish too deep. Their eyes are on top of their head and do most of their feeding upwards.

Keep looking for a successful pattern then once you find one, try to identify all the variables so you can repeat.

Make sure you go prepared with the right equipment to properly handle your catch so you can release them no worse for the wear.

Hook Em' Hard,
Joe
