Superlines for distance?

Question
Hi Dan,
Do you think superlines give more distance than mono when casting 1/2oz. lures on a casting outfit?
Thanks.

Answer
Robert,
Sorry it has taken a bit to answer your question, but things have been extremely busy on this end.  Enough so that I haven't been able to do much work on the computer.

As for you question, in my case the distance is found from the rod and reel.  I use a Garcia Ultra Cast with a 6'6" medium action Berkley Lightning rod for my longer casts.  This is spooled with 10 to 14 pound test Easy Cast, which is not a "super" line.  The casts made, when using a 1/2-ounce Rat L Trap or Manniac are long enough that I have often missed, or lost fish if the strike came somewhere in the long area of the cast.  If I want more distance I will use a 7' medium action rod.

I'm sure in some cases the "super" will help, such as with a 5'6" rod, but in most cases I've found the reel to be a key factor in distance.

Hope this has helped answer your quesion, and if you have further questions about this or any other subject please don't hesitate to ask.

Best of fishing,
Dan
