Identifying & Valuing Vintage Heddon Vicount Deluxe Fly Rod #8155

Hello,
a friend gave me this rod, it is gold blank fiberglass rod with black wraps. Above the handle it says in script " Heddon Vicount Deluxe #8155-8' " I have tried doing some research on these rods and I have found the vicount 8156 and 8157 but not the 55. I would love to know when it was made/value and as I am a fly fishermen the weight line it should take and if I could use it (if its not worth anything)

Hi Michael,

The Viscount series dates from the 1960s.  I don't have a listing o the various models, but I have seen other 8xxx and 7xxx rods in the series.  Value in average condition would be in the $20-$30 range and in excellent condition more like $30-$50 or so.

Line rating is probably a 7wt or 8wt...could even be a 6wt...I would try all three if you have them available and see which one works best.  If not, go with the 7wt as most likely.

I would use it.  It should fish well and you will enjoy it.
