Heddon fiberglass fly rod

Question
Hey there, I just bought an old Heddon fiberglass fly rod and wondered if you could tell me a little bit anout it like how old it is and it's approximate value. It is a mark 50 pro weight. Model #8545. It's an 8 foot rod #7 line and has controlled flex action written on it. I would say its in excellent condition. Would you also be so kind as to recommend a reel for this rod? Thanks for your time. I appreciate any info you have on it.

Answer
Hi Paul,

I have one of these in 8 1/2 foot; it is a nice rod.

The rod is from the 1960s.  Value is dependent on condition, but in excellent condition the rod value would be in the $80-$100 range.

Reel type depends on what you like and are comforatble using. I prefer the older click and pawl reels like Pfluegers.  You can find plenty of them in the online auctions or at swap meets.

If you prefer the newer reels with disc brakes, etc, there are dozens on the market that will do the job.

Thanks,  Joe
