Value Assessment: Wright & McGill Water Seal Bamboo Fly Rod & Perrine Reels
Question
A donor wants to give an old bamboo fly rod to our TU club to auction. We need a value.
It is a Wright & MCGill "Water Seal" 3 piece with extra tip, all in good condition, except one tip repaired. Comes with the sack and original metal rod tube.
Also he offered two automatic fly reels, made by Perrine Mfg. Co.,
"Free Stripping" , Pat no. 1.910.573, No 80, and the other Pat No 1.810.573, No. 50. both worn slightly and working. I can email photos if you like.
Many thanks, Louie
Answer
Louie,
length of the rod is important. Will assume its 8 1/2 to 9 ft, most common lengths. The broken tip hurts as well. Would put it $75-125 range. (In excellent condition with both tips would be closer to $200)
Perrine reels - around $5-10 each.
you can get a second opinion at the classic fly rod forum.

Bob
