est of rod value

Question
Hi, I have a Fenwick Iron Feather Flyrod that I purchased new some time ago and wonder if it's worth anything in todays market with all the new rods out there. It has only been used twice and looks new, with original tags, sock, and aluminum fenwick tube that it came in.Has no marks or scratches on it. The model # is IF905-4  5 weight, 3-1/2oz. My son would like to trade it for a shorter rod, and we would like to know it's worth before we do.

Answer
Hi Bud,

If this is one of the original, made in the USA, Iron Feather rods by Fenwick, then it does have value in today's market.  If it is one of the newer Iron feathers, value is not going to be as high.  Probably somewhere in the $200-$300 range.

To get a better idea, you might want to post an inquiry on one of the fly rod fishing discussion boards.  Likely there will be someone interested and this would be a good place for a more definitive estimate of value.

If it's an older rod, these were among the best produced by Fenwick.  You might also decide to just buy your son a shorter rod and keep this one for him to use later.

Thanks,  Joe
