Question
Hi, i am looking for what you belive are the top brands for reels and for rods. The few i have studied thus far are RODS: fenwick, daiwa, and abu garcia REELS: abu garcia, daiwa. Please let me know thanks.

Here is what I'm looking for for rods and reels...

Hi Steve, try looking at Shimano rods and reels as well. I use a lot of Shimano gear and I believe they are pretty good all around rods and reels. They are a bit expensive but are top notch gear.

As I've mentioned Steve, Shimano reels would fit your requirement. A reel such as the Stella would more than fit your requirements as would a daiwa saltiga. for the stella look into a size 8000 at least for 30lb. the sizing of daiwa is different, a 4000 would have the same capacity as a shimano 8000.

Rods choices would be penn torque on the lower end, a good mid end rod would be a shimano terez while on the higher end, you could look into carpenter and fisherman rods. this would more than fit your requirements as these are some of the best around. It is more practical to buy something towards the top end to ensure you dont have mechanical failures when you need the gear to perform.

As these rods and reels are tested almost everyday on GT popping, which is arguably one of the toughest form of fishing there is.
