Getting Started

Question
I live in Guam and am interested in shore fishing. What gear do you reccomend to get started? Thanks.

Answer
The term "shore fishing" is so general that it is really impossible to give you a specific answer.  Depending upon the type of fishing you intend to do, there is usually tackle most suitable to that circumstance.  If you are intending to fish open ocean beaches then long surf rods and matching reels would be best.  But that gear would be inappropriate if your shore fishing were to be done from piers or bridges.  Using natural baits requires different equipment than when using artificials.  Fly fishing along a back bay channel edge is only one of many possibilities.  As you can see, the first thing to do is determine where and how you will most likely be fishing.  I will be glad to share may experience if you let me know specifically the sort of shore fishing you intend doing.
