Grouper targeting

2016/7/15 10:23:28

Question
Hello there. I am coming bak to Dubai in the begining of June to visit my family for the summer. That is when the fishing season is officially over in the UAE but im not giving up I will try my old spot over at al-fujairah with my inflattable boat...should take me a few hundred metres offshore...anyway I was hoping that you could tell me how to target a grouper or any other big game fish at this time of year. I never tried spinning or trolling before. And if I want to use trolling should I use the artificial lures or a real fish. And if a real fish should be used how should I present the it?
Kind Regards,
Moses.

Answer
Hi Moses, thanks for asking.

Trolling for grouper can be done with deep diving lures. you should concentrate you efforts on drop offs and other structure.

However the method mostly used here in the UAE is bottom fishing.

Using real fish for bait can be done, but is a bit complicated to put together. There are a lot of resources online that can help you with this, just type "trolling bait rigging" on your google search bar.

You  need hardware like a downrigger or a planer if you plan to chase after hamour/grouper. this will get your bait down to the bottom where they feed.
