Lightning Safety: Saltwater vs. Freshwater - Which is Safer?

Neither saltwater nor freshwater is considered safer during a lightning storm. Water, both salt and fresh, can conduct electricity. Lightning can travel through water and strike a person in or near the water. Therefore, it is important to stay out of the water and seek shelter in a substantial building or a fully enclosed metal vehicle.
