Repetitions for Mastery

Question
In learning the different parts of the golf swing, how much practice is required? How many repetitions would I need to do to master the motion?

Answer
The challenge in learning the golf swing, is to program the neurons of your brain to fire in the proper sequence, efficiently. This requires repetition and practice.

Kinesiology scientists believe it takes:

About 100 repetitions for a neuron pathway to be created

About 3000 to 5000 repetitions for mastery (to become automatic).

That's a lot of swings and practice.

It's best to spread that practice out over a long time period. 50 days of 100 repetition is much more effective than 5 days of 1000 repetition.

Plus, the swing must be learned in parts, as it is a very complex motion. It's best to focus on one part at a time.

Hope this helps.
