handicap after a long time not playing

Question
Hello,
I was wandering if you could help me.  I have put my name down for a fun local golf tournament, but the thing is, the last time I had a game of golf was over 13 years ago (can't remember what my score was), and before that game I hadn't played in about 5 years.

I used to play a lot as a child/teenager and got down to a 16 handicap, but with the lack of playing my game got worse and now having not played really for around 18 years, I'm not sure what to expect of my game. Especially the fact that I am left handed, but play golf right handed.

My question is: What handicap do I use for the tournament?

Many thanks
Caroline

Answer
Caroline,

Two rounds of golf in 18 years. Wow!!

I would talk to the tournament coordinator and tell him your situation. Since it's a fun tournament, he should be lenient to you. If it were me, I would give you a 30 - 36 handicap.

Hope this helps,
