ball in rough

Question
If a ball goes in the rough, someone told me you cannot ground club while hitting it out.  Is this correct?  I know that applies in sand trap. This is new to me.  Thank you. Evie

Answer
Hello and thank you for asking. The only time you cannot ground the club is in a hazard, i.e., bunkers, water, or areas near water marked off with a red or yellow line.  That would be a stroke penalty.

Some people may tell you not to ground your club near the ball on certain kinds of lies, like rough, because you raise the risk of moving the ball by doing that, and that will be another stroke penalty and you would need to replace the ball to the original position.
