Improving-two questions

Question
Jim
I am going to spend more of my leisure time this summer working on my game.
I work nights, so one of my ideas is to hit the driving range every day.
Ideally, I would take lessons, but anything that is available where I live is on the weekend or evenings-times I am working.
So, I am thinking about getting some kind of aide or swing improvement device of which there seem to be lots available.
Is that a good idea, and if so what do you reccomend?
Also, I am a shorter very stocky guy-5'7", 230 pounds, with a belly. I am not a little fatty I am quite solid and in decent shape, but the best physique for most sports except wrestling maybe ;-)
I dont 'fit' most of the clubs I have. I cant really afford a set of custom fitted clubs.
My golfing buddy got a good set at Costco at a good price.Could I get a set and take them to a golf shop to get cut? Also, what clubs (I am a leftie) at a low-midrange price, including bag, would you reccomend?
Thanks!

Answer
Sorry for the delay.
Based on your information, A set of custom clubs is not simply taking an off the rack and have them cut down.
Lie angle,
Flex,
Grip size
Off set of the head
Shaft profile
loft, are a few of the parameters that are taken into account when building your set.

Custom clubs do not have to be pricey. In upper end markets as in bigger cities, I am sure they are scary. In my area the clubs we make are competitive if not just a little less than typical OEM prices. Then throw in I am the international clubmaker of the year making them and fitting them.

I to am a lefty and know the problems we face getting quality clubs in the bag.

Answer #1
Get a few rounds in and chart the problem you are having. Then search the net or the local golf store the  aide to help you out.  It does no good to get an aide that helps with a slice when a hook is your trouble.  If you what to go all out I think the best aid is the Explanar,a swing circle with a weight club for guidance.

Answer #2
NO!!!!!
get fit correctly get the right clubs in your bag for your game and then see answer #1.
