Golf Handicaps

Question
Hi Dan. We have an annual trip from 2 golf clubs. For the past 8 years the winners has always been from one of the golf clubs. The other club say that as theirs is an easier course, there is a mismatch in handicaps, and they now need to adjust their handicaps (upwards of 5 shots) to reflect this. They also mention the slope. Is there a correct solution to this issue, as we are starting to fall out over the subject ! Thanks

Answer
Hello Mark,

Thanks for asking this question.

I think in this case you may want to consider some adjustment if two courses have different difficult levels (i.e. Slope).

You need to come up adjustment factor by dividing slope rate by 113.

For example, Course1 has slope of 125, and course2 has slope of 115.
I believe everybody has a valid 'individual handicap index', and you need to calcuate 'Course handicap'.

If your individual handicap is 16, then
your course handicap at Course1: 16 * (125/113) = 17.69 = 18.
your course handicap at Course2: 16 * (115/113) = 16.28 = 16.

I hope this helps your situation.

Thanks.
