iron shots go left

Question
I hit my irons fairly consistently and crisply. The problem is that 4 out of 5 go left on me.  I'M comfortable that I am doing all the fundementals right in my set-up ie: grip, alignment, posture, & ball position.

My drives off the tee with driver are fairly decent and I have been able to straighten them out by adjusting my grip. I tend to slice, but if I keep my right elbow close to my body on backswing and slightly tighten my grip I can straightin it out.

What do I need to tweek to get my iron shots to straighten out. I am tired of landing my ball on the next tee box and not on the green .

I am new to this game.

Thanks
Dennis

Answer
Hello Dennis,

Thanks for asking this question.

I will try to give my best based on what you described.

I want to point out two things.
First, check your blade at the time of contact.  Make sure your that the angle of blade is square to the ball.  If the angle is slightly closed to the ball, it will promote hook or draw, which sends the ball to the left.

Secondly, after you hit the ball (right after contact), is your swing (or swing plane) pulling to the left?  If this is the case, try to keep the swing plane as straight as possible, not bending it to the left.  Try to extend your swing plane a little straight forward.

I hope this helps your game.
