is there a difference if someone has a plus four handicap or if they say their handicap is four?

Hi John:

Yes, 8 shots.  If anyone has a Plus something handicap, they are a real good player.  That would mean in a stroke play event where handicaps are being used, they would have to give back the amount of shots per their handicap.  For instance, when I turned Professional, my handicap was a +2.  That meant I would have to give back 2 shots to the field during an 18 hole stroke play event.  If my handicap was a 2, I would be given two shots (on the #1 and #2 handicap holes) like everyone else would get.  If you have an 8 handicap, you would get 8 shots on Handicap holes 1-8 (not holes 1-8).
