clb set up

Question
I got a set of cubs from my father in law and I'm not sure it they are all there. Could you please tell me what clubs I should have in my bag?

Answer
Hi Tom:

It is a matter of personal preference these days, but a set of clubs given to you by somone else would normally contain:

Woods:  Driver, 3 wood, 5 wood
Irons:  3 iron through Pitching Wedge
Wedges:  Sand Wedge
Putter:  1 putter

In today's golf world, you need hybrids.  Very easy to hit and easier to get airborne.  Remember, by the rules of golf, you are allowed a maximum of 14 clubs, but there is no minimum.

Here is my suggested bag of clubs:

Driver, 4 wood, hybrid  (maybe add another hybrid)
Irons:  4 iron through PW
Wedges:  Gap Wedge, Sand Wedge, Lob Wedge (Pick 2)
Putter

Best advice:  Get the clubs checked out to see if the shaft is right for you and get the clubs checked for correct loft and lie for you.  That might not make sense to you now, but find a good club repair guy near you and ask them.  Good luck with your new clubs.
