Left Foot Flaring to Left

Question
Hi I am a right handed golfer and I have this annoying problem in that when I swing the club my left foot moves towards the target on my downswing, before impact.  Sometimes it completely leaves the floor!  Please can you help with why this happens?  Many Thanks. Matt

Answer
Matt,

You should have 75% (or more) of your weight on the left foot at impact. It sounds like you have the majority of your weight on the right foot during the down swing. This allows the left foot to move before impact. Try hitting some balls with your feet together. This will keep your weight stationary. Feel the weight on your left foot before impact. This should keep that left foot on the ground and provide more consistency. With some practice you should be able to rid yourself of that habit.

Good luck,

Michael
